Does Australia want their own Obama?

In late 2007 Australia chose Kevin07, but Kevin Rudd is not an Obama.

My question is does Australia want or need an Obama?

I am not talking here about policy, race or religion but about bring together a nation.

  1. I'd say you can't bring together a nation without race, policy or creed. Obama brought together a nation by portraying himself as the messiah - to a nation crying out for rescue. That was not a mistake. It was a narrative shaped and cajoled by him and his team.

We all want "unity" - but being united comes through either everyone picking the same leader - like the US with Obama, or one leader forging their own nation. Like Mark Driscoll... I mean like Jesus. I can't see the nation of Australia uniting under Jesus - though I'd like to - but obviously Jesus does, and will ultimately, unite the Kingdom of God - and that's much more significant than any temporal kingdom because it will unite people across races and political tendencies - which will be much more impressive.

Kevin Rudd is not black enough to be Obama. And Australia's circumstances at the 07 election were not dire enough to need an Obama.

  2. My word verification for the last post was "dolord" probably a suitable prayer regarding Jesus instituting his kingdom.

  3. This time it was "pyros" - fitting because of the lake of fire awaiting those not in that kingdom.

  4. Rudd is like Austin Powers mini-me - not Obama enough, but some people try to portray them the same. Not quite sure if Australia wants or needs an Obama, because is Australia really that divided?
